Axa is one of the world’s
leading financial management companies and has major operations in
North America, Western Europe and
Asia
. Although the
companies that now make up Axa have been around since the 17th
Century, the name Axa has only been in place since 1985 when Mutuelles
Unies was rebranded. Since
then, Axa has acquired many leading companies and from 1996 it has
been listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Later in 1996, Axa merged with UAP who were the major
shareholder of Sun Life and from 2000, Axa completed the acquisition
of the minority shares of Sun Life and the holding company was
changed to AXA UK plc. Of
course, most of us will be more familiar with AXA due to their
sponsorship of the FA cup in 1998-1999, the year of Manchester
United’s famous treble winning season and also 2001-2002 when
Arsenal beat
Chelsea
3-0.
In
the
UK
, Axa is made up of AXA Sun Life, AXA Insurance, AXA PPP healthcare
and AXA Ireland. Car
Insurance policies are offered through Axa Insurance are only
available through brokers and offer their policies cover private and
business customers. There
is the usual choice of fully comprehensive, third party fire and
theft or third party. In
today’s world where everything can be done immediately it may seem
strange for a company not to offer direct insurance but on the plus
side this can help to keep the price down – in many ways it is
better not to offer a direct service if this means that the prices
offered through brokers can remain low and competitive.
